Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor reportedly turned down any chance of a deadline day move because he had not received a sign from God.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the Togolese forward turned down offers from Spurs to cancel his contract, scuppering any potential move to Aston Villa during the window on advice of his pastor.

The 31-year-old has one year remaining on his £100,000-a-week deal and yesterday the White Hart Lane club proposed to cancel the deal so that Adebayor could join a club as a free agent.

However, Adebayor refused unless his contract was paid up in full, which would have cost the club around £5 million.

With chairman Daniel Levy unwilling to grant Adebayor’s request, gone are any hopes of first-team football for the former Arsenal and Real Madrid frontman until January.

Stripped of a squad number this season, boss Mauricio Pochettino has made it clear Adebayor is not in his plans and despite still being able to make an agreement to cancel his contract, the ex-Manchester City man will be unable to join a club until the new year.

Adebayor, who has notched 41 times for Spurs in 106 matches, made just eight Premier League appearances last season, scoring twice.
