Tottenham Hotspur will look to Everton’s James McCarthy as they aim to strengthen their midfield.
McCarthy has performed well for Everton this season and is said to be frustrated that Everton have not yet approached him with a new contract, according to the Daily Mail.
This has alerted Spurs, who have long admired McCarthy and came close to making an offer for the midfielder when he was at Wigan Athletic.
It is likely that Tottenham will turn to the 24-year-old after it was made clear that Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin would prefer a move to Manchester United.
McCarthy’s current deal still has three years remaining, so Everton are in no hurry to sell, however, Tottenham are reportedly willing to make a sizeable offer for the Republic of Ireland international.
Aaron Lennon, who had a successful stint at Everton at the end of last season, remains on Tottenham’s books and could be used as a makeweight in the deal.
