Mauricio Pochettino believes that Ryan Mason is a “massive talent” after he scored on his debut against Nottingham Forest.

Spurs progressed to the last 16 of the Capital One Cup after coming from behind to beat Forest with goals from Mason, Robe

After falling 1-0 down to Jorge Grant’s goal, Pochettino believes that his side remained calm despite the setback.

He said: “We needed to stay calm after the goal; we always believed that we can get back into the game, it was a big reaction and an important reaction for our supporters.”

The substitutes made a big difference to the home side’s play and that showed with all three substitutes, Mason, Kane and Erik Lamela, all being involved in Spurs’ goals.

Pochettino said: “You always try to find the solution with the substitutes and they made an impact. In the last 15 minutes we played how I want us to play.”

The 30-yard strike from Mason was the pick of the bunch and in the post match press conference, Pochettino heaped praise on the 23-year-old’s talent.

He said: “Ryan at the beginning of the pre season was good, last season was difficult for him because of injuries but he is a massive talent from the academy.

“We need to be careful with him, he played in the under 21s away at Sunderland on Monday and was in the squad tonight. I am very happy for him.”

The lilywhites have been rewarded with a home tie against championship side Brighton in the next round.

Spurs will need to improve ahead of Saturday’s massive North London derby against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
