THE MOTHER of an ill boy said she feels “blessed” after her neighbours helped raise cash for her son’s hospital.

Emma Brand, 28, and her neighbours organised a community fun day on Saturday, September 24, and raised £500 for Great Ormond Street Hospital where her son Lee is a patient.

The two-year-old has isolated bulbar palsy, a condition that sees him having difficulty chewing and swallowing and can cause him to choke on liquids.

The mother of three, who lives in Thornbury Way, Walthamstow, said she wanted to give something back as the hospital staff have been very welcoming.

She said: “I wanted to give back to Great Ormond Street Hospital because the staff have been out of this world.

“They were so welcoming to us when we arrived and they have treated us very well.

“By now, Lee is used to seeing doctors and always lifts his shirt up for them to listen to his heart.

“My neighbours have gone out of their way to help us. I feel blessed and they are part of my family.

“The community came together and I have made some lovely friends here.”

The fun day featured a giant cake in the shape of a tiger auctioned for £100 and activities for children.
