A MOTHER is “frightened” for her children’s safety after a kitchen cupboard fell off the wall and broke her son’s tooth.

Vethune Sharpe O’Connor, of White Hart Lane, received a phone call from her son, Rashaine, 11, on March 7, to say he had been hit by a cupboard stacked with tins while he was looking for a snack.

He was pushed backwards across the kitchen and the cupboard hit him in the face, breaking his tooth in half.

Ms O’Connor, who also has a two-year-old daughter, said her son had been scarred by the accident and she was worried the same thing could happen again.

She said: “It has been frightening. I cannot sleep at night as I keep making sure he is okay while he is sleeping and I really hope it didn’t do any further damage that we don’t realise about.

“It has traumatised him. He walks about the house avoiding all the cupboards.

“He has his SATS coming up at school, so it an important time for him and he should not have to feel burdened with worry about whether he may get hurt again.”

Ms O’Connor has asked Homes for Haringey, which fitted the kitchen, to come and replace the cupboard and carry out a safety inspection.

She said: “I am angry about what has happened as it feels like our house has just been neglected and nobody has checked it is safe for us to live in.

“I do not feel comfortable with them just fixing the cupboard and want them to carry out a full inspection why their installation and building work failed the first time, so that this sort of thing doesn’t happen again.”

“I just want them to know I am not being difficult, I just do not feel safe in my own home."

A Homes for Haringey spokesperson, who refused to be named, said: “A member of the repairs team attended Ms Sharpe O’Connor’s home.

"A follow up appointment was made, but the resident was not at home when we attended at the agreed time.

"We left a card inviting Ms Sharpe O’Connor contact us to make another booking, but we did not hear from her.

"Now that we’re aware that she is still concerned, we will be getting in touch to make another appointment. Hopefully, this will allay any concerns that she may still have.”
