A 15-year-old has been given a 12-month detention order after admitting causing the death of a moped rider in a car crash.

The 15-year-old boy, who pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at Blackfriars Crown Court on March 11, was banned from driving for ten years and given a 12-month detention order at the court on Wednesday, May 27.

Other offences including failure to stop, causing death while uninsured and causing death without a licence will remain on file.

Police were called at 1pm on October 19 last year to reports of a collision between a moped and two cars on Seven Sisters Road at the junction with Moreton Road.

London Ambulance Service and the air ambulance attended and provided medical assistance to the moped rider – later named as Joe Walker, 17, of Islington - but despite these efforts he died at the scene.

A total of six people were arrested in connection with the crash.

A 17-year-old boy previously pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified in connection with the incident. He was sentenced on January 20 at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court to an 18-month rehabilitation order.

He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months.

A 16-year-old-boy was convicted of allowing himself to be carried in a stolen vehicle and given a 12-month conditional discharge at Highbury Corner Youth Court on May 19.

Three men previously arrested in connection with the incident were released without charge.
