A man has been jailed for a “traumatic” knifepoint robbery.

Glenville Fergus, 51, of no fixed abode, was jailed for four years and four months at Wood Green Crown court for the robbery of a 19-year-old woman at the junction of White Hart Lane and Ewart Grove, Tottenham, earlier this year.

The teenager was returning home from work on the night bus and got off outside Haringey Civic Centre, in Wood Green High Street, at 3am on Saturday, February 21.

As she crossed the road at the junction of the two roads she heard Fergus running behind her.

He shouted at her to give him her bag but the 19-year-old refused to hand it over.

Fergus then tried to grab it from her, and then reached into his trouser pocket, flicking a Stanley knife out, pointing it at the woman and shouting at her to give him the bag.

He then snatched the bag and ran off.

His victim called the police, who found Fergus in Commerce Road, in Tottenham.

He was stopped and found in possession of a Stanley knife and the woman's purse was found next to him.

Fergus admitted to the robbery and showed police where he had thrown the victim's handbag and other items.

Detective Constable Leon Ure, from Haringey's serious acquisitive crime unit, said: "This was a traumatic ordeal for the victim.

“Fortunately thanks to the prompt response of police officers and the subsequent courageous actions of the victim in supporting our investigation, a dangerous individual has been brought to justice."
