Shopfronts dating back to the Victorian era are to be restored to their former glory.

Haringey Borough Council has secured a grant of nearly £1.5 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund to restore the shopfronts in High Road, Tottenham.

Apprentices will be offered the chance to learn valuable period restoration skills by working on the scheme and members of the community will be invited to workshop sessions to find out more about the project.

Cabinet member for regeneration Alan Strickland said: “I’m delighted that we’ve won this important HLF grant, which will help us improve the facade of some of Tottenham High Road’s most iconic shops.

“Local residents and traders are rightly proud of Tottenham’s heritage and it’s important that we do what we can to capture and support Tottenham’s unique character as we also press ahead with securing the area’s future.”
