Strike action will go ahead as planned in a school after talks broke down between governors and union representatives.

The NUT members at Fortismere School planned to strike on November 5, with talks held today to try and avoid further action.

The union says it will now strike on further dates in November at the school. It is planning similar action at Highgate Wood School, which has not held talks with the union.

Helen Anthony, headteacher at Fortismere, and Patrick Cozier, headteacher at Highgate Wood, both signed a letter on behalf of secondary headteachers in the borough calling for the removal of Julie Davies as Haringey NUT secretary.

Ms Davies has since been suspended for gross misconduct by Haringey Council, and this week lost a court case challenging the council’s power to suspend her.

Niall O'Connor, deputy secretary of Haringey NUT, said the decision would have “dire consequences for the whole of the trade union movement”, and the union would appeal.
