Crowds of teenagers have spent the week gathering at the place where a teenage moped rider was killed on Sunday.

Joe Walker, 17, was killed when his moped hit the back of a black Ford Focus in Seven Sisters Road near the junction with Moreton Road on Sunday at around 1pm.

Flowers, cards, bottles of champagne, pink balloons and gold graffiti have all been left on the pavement in tribute to the Islington teenager, known to his friends as Doomps.

Groups of teenagers, often crying, have visited the spot throughout the week to pay their respects.

A family member at the scene today described Mr Walker’s love of pink. She said: “He loved pink. He said only a real man could wear pink, and we’re all going to wear pink at his funeral.

“He was a cheeky chappy, and a family man. He loved his mum so much. He was close to his brother, Jack. They’re a warm family, very tactile. He would always come over and give me a hug and a kiss when he saw me.

“It makes you nervous when something like this happens. I’ve got children, the same as his mother. She’ll always have a part of her heart missing, now. And at family events, there’ll always be someone missing.”

Laura Beane, Mr Walker’s aunt, described the death as “the most heartbreaking time our family has ever had. We’ve seen just how many people loved our JoeJoe.”

Cards left at the scene said: “You were such a lovely person, always smiling and laughing”, “You were always smiling, I’ll never forget your face and your beautiful smile.”

Graffiti left on the wall read “taken from us early”, “rest in paradise, Doomps”, and “forever in our hearts”.
